Wildfire Safety Starts at Home

Proper defensible space around your property is one of the most effective ways to protect your home from wildfire. Creating and maintaining a buffer between your structure and surrounding vegetation helps slow the spread of fire and provides firefighters with a safer place to defend your home.

If you have questions about defensible space requirements, contact our Defensible Space Inspector by email or 916.933.6623 ext. 1044 for assistance.

Are You Doing the Right Thing the Wrong Way?

During summer months, dry vegetation and high heat significantly increase the risk of wildfire. Routine yard work or vehicle use can unintentionally spark a fire if done carelessly.

Tips to Help Prevent Wildfires:

  • Mow early in the day – Avoid mowing in the heat of the afternoon.
  • Avoid metal blades – They can strike rocks and create sparks.
  • Maintain equipment – Ensure spark arresters and engines are in good condition.
  • Park smart – Never park on dry grass; a hot muffler can ignite it.
  • Dispose of clippings properly – Don't pile them near structures or combustible areas.
