The El Dorado Hills Fire Department has adopted the KnoxBox Rapid Entry System to provide secure emergency access to buildings and properties. This system ensures firefighters and emergency personnel can quickly enter locations without causing damage—saving time, property, and lives.

This requirement is based on the California Fire Code, Chapter 5, Section 506.

How to Order a KnoxBox

KnoxBox products can be purchased online at www.knoxbox.com. To ensure proper configuration and approval, please follow the steps below when placing your order:

Step 1: Select Your Product from the Commercial / Residential /Gates section above. 

Step 2: When You Enter the Site You Will Be Prompted To Answer Two Questions.

1. Select Your Location: Select California

2. Enter the Local Fire Department/Sheriff Department:

• For commercial or residential access:

  • Enter and Select: El Dorado Hills Fire Department

  • Then you will be asked to select "Commercial Knox Products" or "Residential Use ONLY - HomeBoxes" before moving on to the product specific page.

• For low-security gate access:

  • Enter and Select: El Dorado Co Sheriff - Gates

  • Then you will be asked to select "Commercial Knox Products" before moving on to the product specific page.

• Select: Search

Step 3: You Will Be Directed To The Product of Choice And Complete the Order
Make sure to:

• Specify installation location if required

• Provide accurate property and contact information

Step 4: Installation and Final Steps
Once your KnoxBox arrives:

• Install the box at the approved location (typically near the front entrance or fire riser room for commercial buildings).

• Contact the El Dorado Hills Fire Department to schedule a key placement and box locking.
