Disposal of Household Hazardous Waste

While the El Dorado Hills Fire Department does not collect hazardous waste, we want to ensure our community has access to the right resources for safe disposal.

Household Hazardous Waste Collection Facilities

Residents can drop off most household hazardous waste (HHW) free of charge at the following permanent collection facilities:

El Dorado Disposal Materials Recovery Facility (MRF)

Location: 4100 Throwita Way, Diamond Springs, CA

Office Hours: Friday – Sunday, 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. (Closed 12:00 – 1:00 p.m. for lunch)
Note: Business waste disposal may have associated fees.

South Lake Tahoe Refuse Transfer Station (MRF)

Location: 2140 Ruth Avenue, South Lake Tahoe, CA

Office Hours: Tuesday – Saturday, 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. (By appointment only – call 530.542.8368)
Note: Some disposal fees may apply.

Tahoe Truckee Sierra Disposal (TTSD)

Location: Hwy 89 & Cabin Creek Rd., Truckee, CA 96161

Household Hazardous Waste Collection Events

El Dorado County also hosts periodic hazardous waste collection events for safe disposal of items like:

  • Paints, solvents, and household cleaners
  • Pesticides and automotive fluids
  • Batteries and fluorescent bulbs
  • Electronics (e-waste)

Note: Station 86 serves as a collection site ONLY on designated event days listed on the county website. Please check the schedule before dropping off materials.
