Safe Surrender Program – A Safe Haven for Newborns
The El Dorado Hills Fire Department is committed to providing a safe and secure environment for surrendered infants under the Safely Surrendered Baby Law. This law allows a parent or legal guardian to voluntarily surrender a baby within 72 hours of birth—no questions asked and without fear of legal consequences—as long as the baby shows no signs of abuse or neglect.
The goal of this program is to prevent unsafe abandonments and ensure that every baby has a chance for a healthy and secure future. Fire stations designated as Safe Surrender sites offer a confidential and judgment-free environment where parents can safely leave their newborns in the care of trained professionals.
